Frederick Hill is the founder and principal of The Hill Group, a health forward consulting firm in Washington, DC and Albuquerque, NM. The Hill Group supports public- and private-sector clients providing professional support services that advance public health programs and projects addressing disease prevention and treatment, particularly those focusing on health disparities, to improve lives in our communities. Much of their work addresses critical issues such as obesity, diabetes, kidney disease, and heart health.


Fred is a native Washingtonian with a stint in Tucson, Arizona where he earned a B.A. in economics from the University of Arizona. He also completed certificate programs at the Beijing Language Institute Chinese Immersion Program as well as MIT’s International Entrepreneurial Master’s Program, a competitive 3-year program for business leaders from around the world. Additionally, he has served as a guest lecturer at the George Washington University School of Business.


Recently honored by the Washington Business Journal, Frederick Hill received its 2019 Minority Business Leader Award. An avid contributor to and supporter of numerous community-based organizations and nonprofits he has also held various volunteer-based appointments. Mr. Hill currently serves as the Chairman of the DC Board of Zoning and Adjustment (BZA), after being appointed by the DC Mayor and confirmed by the DC Council.

Our housing justice program offers down payment grants to qualifying BIPOC first time home buying residents in the DC and Philadelphia areas. Awards range from $5,000 to $15,000 and grants are made multiple times per year until funds are expended.

The application/review process is straight forward and uncomplicated.

Our Board of Advisors reviews applications, interviews finalists and identifies grantees. This is a partnership with the Greater Washington Community Foundation who supports the administrative complexity so we can very simply help people buy homes. *

Applicants must identify as one of the following: American Indian, Indigenous, Alaska Native, Asian, Pacific Islander, Black, African American, Hispanic or Latinix birdSEED has made 29 provisional grants to date. The total grant pool available was $215,000. Additional funds have been raised from supportive community members who shared our vision of simple, no strings financial down payment grants that accelerate the home buying process.
